Windows update stuck: what to do

• Wait at least an hour if the disk light is blinking; large updates are slow on hard disks.
• If it is truly stuck, hold the power button to restart.
• Open Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Windows Update.
• Free at least 10GB on the C drive and try again.
• Disconnect extra USB devices during the update.

If the laptop will not start after a failed update, bring it in; do not keep forcing restarts.
